Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center
Kids Beating Cancer is investing in the needs of today and the future by providing cutting edge therapies to save the lives of children at the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center. Science is the cure, for each child at the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center.
In 2011, Kids Beating Cancer established the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center at Florida Hospital for Children with a pledge of one million dollars, the only pediatric transplant center in Central Florida and surrounding counties. The doors opened to receive patients in late 2012. Dr. Shook joined the team as the new Medical Director in mid 2015. Since Dr Shook’s arrival, this young pediatric transplant center has rapidly grown to the second busiest in the state of Florida, with projections to be a destination transplant program, providing cutting edge technologies offered at only a handful of centers in the US.
Once it is determined the best treatment for a child is a bone marrow or stem cell transplant, a multidisciplinary team at the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center seamlessly coordinates all aspects of the child’s treatment. The bone marrow transplant physicians provide the state-of-the art treatment each child needs by working closely with other specially trained physicians in pathology, radiation oncology, critical care medicine, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, immunology, infectious diseases, surgery and other fields. Physicians in the Kids Beating Cancer Pediatric Transplant Center work closely with laboratory scientists to rapidly move new discoveries to patient care.
