LOCAL BUSINESSES TEE OFF FOR CHARITY
GIVING DYING CHILDREN ‘A GIFT OF HOPE’
Orlando, FL - On May 14th at the Stonebrook West Golf Club,
Kids Beating Cancer and presenting sponsors Mortgage Options of America and
Kelley Real Estate Group is hosting A GIFT OF HOPE 1st Annual Golf Classic to
fund the lab testing necessary to identify compatible bone marrow and blood stem
cell donors for children with cancer whose survival depends on receiving a
transplant, a cost never covered by insurance.
Kids Beating Cancer, Inc., also known as A GIFT OF HOPE for Medically Fragile
& Cancer Children, is one of nine Marrow Donor Recruitment Groups national wide
for the National Marrow Donor Program, (NMDP), and the only nonprofit of its
kind in the State of Florida. The NMDP is the largest and most diverse marrow
donor registry in the world with 5 ½ million volunteers willing to donate
marrow or blood stem cells if ever matched with a patient in need of a
transplant. With the work of Kids Beating Cancer and the NMDP network,
nationwide 200 transplants are facilitated every month and over 20,000 patients
to date have been given a second chance at life.
If spending a day playing golf could offer the hope of a cure to a child or
adult with leukemia or one of 72 other life threatening diseases would you? For
every golfer registered, one lab test identifying a potential donor is funded
and a child with a life-threatening disease can receive the treatment of choice
and the hope of a cure. Register your corporate team as a thank you to
employees for their hard work or in appreciation to your most valuable customers
and your company will save lives. Sign up because if it was your child whose
life depended on the generosity of a stranger you would hope they would step
forward. Identifying volunteer compatible donors saves lives, but the
sophisticated lab test that is never covered by insurance, will only yield a
donor allowing a patient to receive life-saving treatment, with the communities
support. Without the ongoing funding to identify compatible donors, children
will die needlessly
If you are thinking, ‘oh no, not another charity golf tournament and
auction’, don’t. This event is so much more than just another golf fundraiser.
This Golf tournament is the blend of a great golfing experience on a fabulous
course, Stoneybrook West, with enormous life-saving results; allowing golfers
the opportunity to see tangible results from their investment, knowing they are
playing a significant role in providing the hope of a cure for children and
adults who would otherwise die from their disease.
Each year more than 35,000 children and adults in the United States are
diagnosed with diseases which a marrow or blood stem cell transplant could be a
cure. A transplant requires matching tissue types between patient and donor.
These tissue types are inherited, but 70% of patients do not have a matched
donor in their family. These patients can turn to Kids Beating Cancer and the
NMDP for help with the search for a match and for support through every step of
the transplant journey. Kids Beating Cancer works with families, communities,
businesses and other groups to raise awareness and recruit committed individuals
to join the Registry. Recruitment efforts focus on increasing the size and
diversity of the Registry of people who will stay committed and available to
help any patient in need.
Join Kids Beating Cancer for this Charity Golf tournament and you will fund
the expensive and sophisticated lab testing necessary to identify marrow and
blood stem cell donors for children who just want to the opportunity to go to
school, have friends, get married, and experience life. ..And at the same time
you can enjoy a Saturday morning of great golf, friendly competition, an awesome
live-auction with Central Florida’s most entertaining auctioneer, Wade West, and
