DIS Participating In Inaugural NASCAR Foundation Blood & Marrow Drive

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., -- Historic Daytona International Speedway will be one of 13 tracks participating in the inaugural NASCAR Foundation Blood & Marrow Drive on Monday, Sept. 11.

The inaugural NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive, in partnership with the Hendrick Marrow Program and the Jimmie Johnson Foundation, will take place at select NASCAR facilities and the “World Center of Racing” is among those participating.

The program, which began as a result of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, has been held at International Speedway Corporation’s Michigan International Speedway for the past four years and the NASCAR Foundation is turning it into a nationwide project.

Donors may register to give blood and/or sign up for the National Marrow Donor Program Registry at the Daytona International Speedway external care center, which is located near the main entrance of DIS and adjacent to the pedestrian bridge.

Blood donations, which are being received by Florida’s Blood Centers, and marrow registrations, which will be handled by Kids Beating Cancer, Inc., will take place between 12:00 noon – 6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11. Donors are encouraged to make an appointment in advance to donate at www.nascar.com/foundation, for marrow donation questions visit www.kidsbeatingcancer.com.

Anyone donating blood or participating in the marrow registration program at Daytona International Speedway on Monday, Sept. 11 will receive a hat, T-shirt, a visual tour of the Speedway from the NEXTEL Tower and other free items.

Other tracks participating in the drive are Bristol Motor Speedway, California Speedway, Darlington Speedway, Dover International Speedway, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Martinsville Speedway, Homestead Miami Speedway, Michigan International Speedway, Pocono Raceway, Richmond International Raceway, Talladega Superspeedway and Watkins Glen International.
